J&G Villas - Crete GreeceJ&G Villas sit among olive and Mediterranean fruit trees on a hill overlooking the sea in western Crete. Close to the charming coastal village of Kolymvari, the villas boast panoramic views of the dramatically beautiful White Mountains and the turquoise-blue Sea of Crete, and are also just 20 minutes by car from the picturesque capital of the region, Chania.

Kolymvari is a traditional Cretan village of approximately 1,000 inhabitants, which fortunately has not been caught up in the mass tourism development that much of the rest of the area has been enveloped by. It has managed to retain its traditional character and visitors can still interact with locals and shop in stores selling food, clothing and other products from the region, enjoy outdoor fish markets or simply stroll along the village’s coastal road and have a bite to eat at one of the good-quality, family-run restaurants that line the waterfront. The village harbour is a photographer’s paradise, with small colourful fishing boats bobbing up and down in the calm waters as sea gulls dip down and try to snatch a small fish from the fishermen plying their wares. Kolymvari also boasts a long sand and pebble beach, which is organized and offers sun beds, beach umbrellas and a multitude of water sports for activity enthusiasts. For those preferring a more isolated beach experience, there are plenty of spots that are quiet and not at all crowded. The village also has all conveniences that visitors may need, including a well-stocked supermarket, pharmacy, post office, bakery, bank, ATMs, petrol station, taxi stand and a doctor’s office.

For those wishing to do more extensive shopping or looking for more vibrant nightlife, there is the nearby tourist town of Platanias (less than 10 minutes away by car) as well as Chania (20 minutes away, frequent bus service to and from Kolymvari). The J&G Villas are located at a perfect spot for exploration of western Crete’s quaint inland villages as well as for visiting some of the island’s most famous beaches, including stunning Balos Lagoon, exotic pink-sand Elafonissi and crystal-clear Falassarna. In addition, scenic trails and winding roads abound in the area and await visitors to explore either on foot or by mountain bike.
